This gets cited here weekly, usually second-hand, so it is worth setting out what it does and does not establish.
Site reactions are usually technique or temperature rather than the material. Injecting straight from the fridge stings more than injecting at room temperature, alcohol that has not dried carries into the puncture and burns, and re-using the same square inch produces the lump people worry about. Rotate genuinely — different quadrant each week, not different spot in the same quadrant.
Where I think it is weakest: the population was selected and supported in ways a real cohort is not, so I would read the effect size as a ceiling rather than an expectation.
What I am after is whether site reactions are a material issue or a technique issue, and what people changed that actually helped. Not looking for reassurance. Looking for the part I have got wrong.
Figures above are from the primary publication rather than the press summary. If a number here disagrees with one you have, post yours and we will work out which of us is reading a secondary source.

Helpful tip for injection-site reactions needle anxiety: ice the injection site for 30 seconds before injecting. You'll barely feel the 30g needle go in. I went from dreading injection day to not even flinching.
Also, don't watch the needle enter your skin. Look away, take a deep breath, and it's over in seconds.

Side effect timeline for injection-site reactions based on my experience and tracking:
| Side Effect | Onset | Peak | Resolution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nausea | Day 1-2 | Week 1-2 | Week 3-4 |
| Constipation | Week 1 | Week 2-3 | Ongoing (managed) |
| Fatigue | Day 2-3 | Week 1 | Week 2-3 |
| Headache | Day 1 | Day 2-3 | Week 1 |
| Injection site | Immediate | Day 1 | Day 2-3 |
Most side effects are transient and self-limiting. The key is pushing through the first month — it gets dramatically better.

Injection site reactions and injection-site reactions: I was getting red, itchy welts at every injection site that lasted 3-4 days. Turned out I was allergic to the alcohol swab, not the medication!
Switched to chlorhexidine prep pads and the reaction stopped completely. If you're having persistent injection site reactions, consider this possibility before blaming the drug.

Same pattern here, and in the same order.
