I split my time between Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo for work. Curious how GLP-1 access compares across the three Scandinavian countries, especially since Novo Nordisk is literally a Danish company. You'd think Denmark would have the best access but I've heard mixed things. Anyone from these countries want to share experiences?

ish perspective: It's genuinely ironic that Novo Nordisk is headquartered in Bagsværd, Denmark, yet Danish access to Wegovy has been limited by supply issues. Here's the Danish situation:
- Ozempic is available with a læge (doctor) prescription. Covered by Sygesikringen (health insurance) for T2D after individual tilskud (subsidy) application through Lægemiddelstyrelsen. Patient copay after subsidy is typically 500-1,200 DKK per pen depending on your annual medication spending bracket.
- Wegovy launched in Denmark but was withdrawn in 2022 due to global supply constraints. It returned in late 2025 with limited availability.
- Private pricing without subsidy: Ozempic 1mg ≈ 1,100 DKK (~€148), Wegovy 2.4mg ≈ 2,400 DKK (~€322).
- Mounjaro approved but just entering Danish market.
The Danish system is good but the tilskud application process for obesity indication is bureaucratic. My endocrinologist at Rigshospitalet handled it.

Swedish comparison:
In Sweden, GLP-1 medications are handled through the Läkemedelsförmånen (pharmaceutical benefits scheme) managed by TLV (Tandvårds- och läkemedelsförmånsverket).
- Ozempic: Included in förmånen for T2D. With the Swedish högkostnadsskydd (high-cost protection), your out-of-pocket maxes out at 2,850 SEK/year (~€250) for ALL prescriptions combined. So once you hit that ceiling, Ozempic is effectively free.
- Wegovy: TLV reviewed it and initially rejected inclusion in the benefits scheme in 2024, citing cost-effectiveness concerns. They reconsidered and approved it in late 2025 with restrictions — BMI 40+ or BMI 35+ with comorbidity, prescribed by specialist only.
- Mounjaro: Under TLV review.
- Private/self-pay pricing: Ozempic 1mg ≈ 1,300 SEK (~€113), Wegovy 2.4mg ≈ 3,100 SEK (~€269).
The Swedish system is excellent once you're in it. The högkostnadsskydd makes ongoing treatment very affordable. Getting the initial specialist referral through your vårdcentral (health center) is the main hurdle.

Norway checking in:
Norwegian system works through blåreseptordningen (blue prescription scheme) managed by Statens legemiddelverk (Norwegian Medicines Agency):
- Ozempic: Covered on blåresept for T2D. Patient copay is capped at 520 NOK per prescription (roughly €45). Annual cap of 3,165 NOK for all prescription medications through frikort (free card) system.
- Wegovy: This is where Norway actually leads Scandinavia — SLV approved Wegovy for blåresept coverage for obesity (BMI 30+ with comorbidity) in 2025. It was a significant decision. Prescribed through specialist, same copay structure.
- Mounjaro: Approved for T2D, blåresept application under review.
- Self-pay pricing: Ozempic 1mg ≈ 1,400 NOK (~€120), Wegovy ≈ 3,500 NOK (~€300).
Norway is arguably the best of the three for GLP-1 access for obesity specifically. The blåresept system is generous and the frikort annual cap keeps costs very manageable.

This is exactly the comparison I needed. So if I'm understanding correctly:
- Norway: Best for obesity coverage (Wegovy on blåresept)
- Sweden: Best annual out-of-pocket cap system (2,850 SEK max)
- Denmark: Novo Nordisk's home turf but actually most restrictive for obesity indication
Is that a fair summary?
